Just got back into town from the Sundodger Invitational hosted by the University of Washington at Lincoln Park in Seattle, WA. There were 8 races; 4 College level and 4 for High School teams. It was a beautiful day for Seattle. We had nice blue skies shaded by the woods that encompass the park. The only issue seemed to be the confussion when rounding the corner for the finish. Many of the runners who were lapped followed the leaders into the sharp turn into the chute instead of running one more lap. The Kamiakin JV boys had the top 7 positions into the last lap but ‘somehow’ 2nd place was taken by a boy who ended up with a 4 second personal record on a 5k course. It was not the kid’s fault. There should have been better traffic control at the turn. HS Girls Varsity &emdash; Girls 5k Varsity

Amy-Eloise Neale of Glacier Peak High School, with a time of 16:31.12, shattered the course record, 17:21.98, set by Kendra Weitz of Shadle Park last year. She was almost a full minute ahead of the 2nd and 3rd place runners. Kamiakin as a team dominated the event. The varsity boys took 1st place, the varsity girls took 2nd, the jv boys took 1st place, and the jv girls had a respectable 5th.

The Kamiakin men’s Varsity demonstrated why they are a force to be reckoned with, posting a 53 point total on their way to defeating Gig Harbor (WA 4A #1, NHSCA #28 – 89 points), and other state- and nationally ranked teams, including Garfield (WA 4A #8), and Seattle Prep (WA 3A #3, NHSCA #11, Milesplit #14 – 169 points). Keegan McCormick led the way for the Braves with a 3rd place finish in 15:18. Keegan was followed by a red horde of Kamiakin jerseys, with all eight Kamiakin runners placing in the top 22 finishers. The Horde included Garrett Kraal (9th, 15:33), Andrew Snyder (13th, 15:44), Ahmed Ibrahim (15th, 15:46), Christian Rodriguez (17th, 15:51), Daniel Sanchez (18th, 15:52), Cameron Glade (21st, 16:03), and Austin Oser (22nd, 16:05). The race’s overall winner was Seattle Prep’s Joe Hardy (US#9), with a time of 14:57.

It was a banner day Saturday for the Kamiakin cross country teams at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle.
The boys upset top-ranked Class 4A team Gig Harbor, while the girls were second to Snohomish powerhouse Glacier Peak.
A gorgeous West Seattle day was the setting for the 21st annual Sundodger Invitaitonal, and the Husky cross country teams rolled through the Lincoln Park trails to a pair of team victories. Fifth-year senior Joey Bywater surged to the individual win in the men’s race, and Christine Babcock, running unattached, won the women’s race in her first ever Sundodger appearance.
